It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
